Elements

For thousands of years people have been searching for answers to questions about their existence and the presence of everything else around them.

Great ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Babylonians, Japanese, Indians and Tibetans started categorizing matter around them in very basic ways. Earth, Wind, Water and Fire or in other words “the Four Elements” of nature.

Sicilian philosopher Empedocles (450B.C.) observed individual characteristics in each of those four elements and called them “the Four Roots”.

Plato was the first to use the term “elements “in reference to Fire, Water, Wind and Earth.

Today we use the term element in science and they constitute all of ordinary matter in the universe including all living and nonliving things.

This exhibition is an opportunity to open a series of questions and debates that vary from historical to philosophical and spiritual to scientific.

All of which inspired the artwork.
