FROM THE DARK

Concept

In the dark, your mind begins to wander—it can imagine a beautiful and joyful life, or it can envision one that’s sad and bleak.

You have to choose your thoughts carefully and be very selective.

I choose to come out of the darkness and into a beautiful, happy life.

Hence, my limited edition series “From the Dark” was born. (Total of 7 paintings — each with a 1-meter diameter.)

All my artworks are circular, symbolizing the continuity and sustainability of life.

Each piece has a focal point, and the rest of the composition revolves around it, reinforcing the idea that the core is what truly matters—that life itself moves in cycles.

  • You are the focal point of your life.
  • You’re in charge.
  • If you want something to happen, you must make it happen.
  • Keep going—never stop or give up—until you reach your goal.

Method

I used acrylic paint in two distinct ways throughout the series. Each painting features a focal point made up of multiple layers of acrylic—sometimes up to 60 layers—requiring up to 15 days for the paint to fully dry before I begin carving my drawing into the specific layer I choose.

For the background, I applied acrylic paint using both a brush and a fine point pin to extend and complement the overall composition.

Black is used to represent darkness, while bold colors like gold, red, and blue symbolize the emergence from that darkness—infusing the work with a sense of hope, strength, and transformation.

The acrylic carving technique was first introduced to the world by Australian artist Hannah Jensen Fox, and I’ve adapted it in my own way for this series.
